Inner Maps
"The map is always more interesting than the territory."
It usually starts with an idea. In this case, Inner Maps is a reflection on the complex nature of geographical maps: they are neither entirely an image, nor entirely a concept. In this series, city maps are seen as both a concrete representation of streets and as a group of abstract ideas, icons and indexes. Daniel blurs out this dichotomy by drawing on the intimate impressions he gets by seeing and reinterpreting the maps, and by drawing on his own memories of the cities depicted he actually visited. These Inner Maps are like a geography of emotions, a representation of some ephemeral moments of our intimate memory.
